Name: Ashley Skeels

Age: 17

Home State:
Texas

Species and Breeds Shown: Gelbvieh, Angus, Chianina, Simmental, Hereford, balancers

Favorite Breed: Angus
Why?  I have shown and delt with many associations and the Angus breed is by far my favorite. The victory is so much better in the angus ring verses the others.

Favorite Stock Show:
Denver
Why? The best of the best show up there and I have also won the Gelbvieh Jr. Show there and reserved the open the same year.

Favorite Judge: Chris Skaggs from College Station Texas
Why? He is a fair judge and yes I may have won under him a few times but that is not always the case. We just seem to like the same cattle.

How old were you when you first started showing? 8

What is your biggest accomplishment in the show ring? There are many. My favorites include, Reserve Champion Gelbvieh at Louisville Kentucky, Champion Jr. Gelbvieh Female, and Reserve Open Female at Denver. Reserve Supreme at San Antonio. And 3 time National Champion Showmanship winner.

Who is your hero? Shannon and James Worrell.

If you could go to lunch with anyone at a stock show, who would it be and why? My crew I show with. Though we all have our own cattle, we work together and when one of us wins the whole crew wins.

Who is the person who has helped you the most with your show projects? James and Shannon Worrell

On a typical school day, what time do you have to get up in the morning? 6

What is your daily routine you use when working with your project? Feed at 6. Then catch and rinse at 7. Be at school by 8:30, home from lunch to rinse, and then back to school, and home again at 3 to wash and dry the cattle.

Favorite tip about showing: To remain cool, calm, and collective.

What’s your typical show ring attire? Black long sleeves with cruel girl jeans, and black boots. With turquoise jewelry.

Do you do anything differently when you’re in showmanship versus when you’re just showing in the show? No

If you have a choice, would you rather wash the animals or get them dry? Both. I love washing. But at a show blowing is where it counts, you can lose or win a show on the way you blow a calf.

Besides showing, what are your hobbies? Nothing. I love to show cattle and that is all I do.

About how many shows to you get to go to each year? 60

What’s the one show supply you just couldn’t live without on show day? Show sheen

Do you have any “good luck charms” about showing? I have a lot. More than I can count on two hands, but if I named them all I would probably jinx myself.

Favorite magazine: Showbox

Favorite web site: I don’t have a favorite. Any web site with cattle catches my eye.

If you have two animals that win classes, who would be your #1 choice to help show your other animal in the champion drive (adult or junior)?
Shannon Worrell from Texas. She is the one who taught me to show.

You just won Grand Champion at the biggest show ever. You and your family get a free dinner at any restaurant of your choice. Where would you pick? Ruth Chris in San Antonio Texas
