Age: 16 Home State: Texas Species and Breeds Shown: Cattle, mostly Steers Favorite Breed:Charolais and yellow Favorite Stock Show: Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Favorite Judge:Jason Hoffman How old were you when you first started showing? 9 What is your biggest accomplishment in the show ring? Winning San Angelo’s steer show. Who is your hero? Lance Bearb, he has always been there for me when I needed help and is a great friend and role model. If you could go to lunch with anyone at a stock show, who would it be and why? Brandon Horn because he is hilarious! Who is the person who has helped you the most with your show projects? Lance Bearb On a typical school day, what time do you have to get up in the morning? I wake up at 6 am to get to the barn and – if in season – to work out for football. What is your daily routine you use when working with your project? In the early morning I go straight to the barn and set out hay to everything then wash the steers. In the afternoon, I work the calves, getting their hair and attitudes ready to show. At night I let the show cattle out and feed everything. I’m in the barn from dawn to dusk with my projects. Favorite tip about showing: You might not always have the greatest calf there but you can show them to hide his faults. It’s about working with your cattle and get to know them and learning what to do to make them look the best in the ring. What’s your typical show ring attire? Buckle jeans, Lucchese alligator, square toed boots and long sleeved shirt. Do you do anything differently when you’re in showmanship versus when you’re just showing in the show? No ma’am every time I step into the ring it’s game time. If you have a choice, would you rather wash the animals or get them dry? I would much rather wash. It takes much longer to dry. Besides showing, what are your hobbies? Football, hunting, and fishing. About how many shows to you get to go to each year? All majors and a lot of prospects… I think maybe 25 or so. What’s the one show supply you just couldn’t live without on show day? EZ-All Soap. Do you have any “good luck charms” about showing? No, not really. I believe in luck, but more so believe in skill. Favorite magazine: The ShowBox Favorite web site: I don’t really know... I guess showsteers.com. If you have two animals that win classes, who would be your #1 choice to help show your other animal in the champion drive (adult or junior)? Emily June Kelley. She is a really great showman and I know she would get the job done. You just won Grand Champion at the biggest show ever. You and your family get a free dinner at any restaurant of your choice. Where would you pick? Fogo De Chao, or Texas Roadhouse. Both are SO GOOD! |
